Adnane Sounni
I am a graduate student in International Studies and Diplomacy (MA in International Studies and Diplomacy) at the Université Al Akhawayn in Ifrane. After obtaining my BA, I conducted field research that led to the implementation of community development projects in Morocco, Senegal and the United States. During my master’s studies, I took a course on migration in the North African context with Professor Catherine Therrien. It was very interesting for me to understand this theme from an anthropological and humanist point of view. It was therefore with great enthusiasm that in June 2020 I joined the team of the research project « Identités plurielles » as a research assistant. This project gives me the opportunity to work on anthropological themes such as identity, migration and transnationalism. Working on these subjects is interesting for me because it makes me reflect on my experience of living in different countries and cultures and to make the link between the research work and my own life experiences. I can better understand how Senegalese people perceive me differently than people in the United States, and also how we Moroccans understand and categorize race and ethnicity. It is therefore a great pleasure for me to work on this project that allows me to continue to learn about myself and about others.
